Humankind fears uncertainty. For thousands of years, we've sought tools to determine our future and guide our destiny. We’ve embraced the ancient art of palmistry, the sacred rites of augury and haruspicy, and even created mechanical fortune-telling automatons to provide glimpses of what lies ahead. These practices were never just about predictions or divinations. Instead, they served a deeper, more practical purpose: helping people make sense of uncertainty, find guidance, and cope with the unknown...
In today’s age of the algorithm, the symbolic and interpretive practices of traditional fortune-telling have been supplanted by data-driven models of artificial intelligence. AI now functions as a modern oracle, generating projections of possible futures from vast swathes of data, offering instant results with the appearance of informed, objective certainty, bypassing the slower processes of human interpretation and reflection. AI remains devoid of human essence. It cannot feel, imagine, or grasp the nuanced complexities of human experience. No matter how advanced its algorithms, AI cannot replicate the instinct, intuition, and emotional intelligence that guide us through the ambiguities of life.
Through this work, I invite you to engage with the unknown and to consider AI as one tool in the long lineage of humanity’s desire to know what lies ahead. In a world where thinking is increasingly outsourced to machines, what do we stand to lose?
This piece is not merely a commentary on AI; it’s a reminder to trust in ourselves and our intuition, even when confronted with the overwhelming precision of technology.
I urge you to embrace your inner Fool — not as a figure of naivety, but as the Tarot archetype: open-hearted, intuitive, and unafraid to step into uncertainty. Trust in your capacity for intuition, judgement, and reflection as you sew your own path forward...
